[TWE NEWS] Reunion Renewal/Alenka’s Adventure Book Picks/Financial Freedom/Blackberry Melt

May 24, 2024

Hello Reader,

It’s reunion time! How many of you have gone to one recently? I can’t tell you how much fun and invigorating a recent one with former television production friends was for me. Seeing old colleagues was like going back in a time machine.

I was fortunate to share the experience in Burbank, CA near my old NBC haunts with our TWE podcast host Stacey Gualandi, whom I have worked with for decades.

If you get the chance, go to one or be an organizer. I guarantee laughter, a lot of hugs and some lively conversation.

This experience was definitely an adventure, filled with the unexpected and a terrific feeling of reconnection.

TWE BOOKSHELF:

ADVENTURE BOOK PICKS BY ALENKA VRECEK

We at TWE constantly marvel at the adventurous spirit of Alenka Vrecek, author of She Rides, a memoir about her 2500-mile bike ride of a lifetime, who has guested on our podcast with Stacey Gualandi.

We wanted to catch up with her again as we approach summer for a Q&A and to get her suggestions for exciting travel books.

If you know anything about wing foiling, you would understand just how challenging Alenka’s new sport is. You can see her here being lifted out of the water as she is propelled by the wind on a board or wing.

As you can see, Alenka likes thrill-seeking sports. She urges others to take up new situations (not necessarily wing foiling!) and the possible discomfort that may come with them, especially if you have what she calls "broken places in your life."

She swears it will help you gain confidence and self-worth. We applaud Alenka’s spirit and hope it gets you thinking of new places to go and sports to take on this summer.

YUMMY BLACKBERRY BRIE MELT

Our trivia question for May:

Did you know that the blackberry is a member of the rose family? And that they are not berries but a combination of dozens of tiny fruits called drupelets? As well as being delicious, they are also good for your health, containing antioxidants, vitamin C and iron.

When we saw Ree Drummond make this Blackberry Brie Grilled Cheese on The Pioneer Woman, we could not resist getting the recipe. How delicious, nutritious and just plain lovely to look at. Try the simple recipe like I did (above) and enjoy this underrated fruit.

Leaving you with this advice from Alenka Vrecek:

“Listen to your intuition. Be creative. Learn survival skills. Laugh when it hurts. Laugh when you are scared. Laugh when you fail and then do it again. And most of all, enjoy the journey no matter the destination.”

Enjoy the holiday weekend,

Pam, Cheryl and The TWE Team
