Dear Readers,
Those “Crazy, Lazy Days of Summer” are upon us, and it’s time to sing a song of cheer as the song says. It’s also time to make memories that will remain and inspire us throughout the year. I was remembering my exhilarating days in Ireland almost a year ago when I was in search of my dad's ancestors, the Burkes.

I rejoiced each time I came upon a pharmacy or a butcher’s shop with our name, thinking maybe long, lost relatives were inside. I found new friends, but alas, never found them. I surely felt their presence. Maybe you are in the midst of making fond memories of your own this summer? Hope so!

The search is always the fun part. It’s the unraveling of the unknown and seeing where it takes me.
Laurie King experienced just that in her fascinating podcast with bestselling author Allison Pataki, who spent many years unearthing the lost heroine of the 19th century Margaret Fuller.
Margaret had a fiery heart and spirit.
Allison's book Finding Margaret Fuller is a must read if you enjoy historical fiction and stories about remarkable women who make their mark.
Allison is a brilliant writer who captures forgotten women of history magnificently.
We discovered another talented writer oozing with curiosity for uncovering women’s lives when we came upon British author Sarah Gristwood and her new book Secret Voices, A Year of Women’s Diaries.
Our host Laurie King spoke to Sarah at her home hear the English Channel about the year she spent delving into over four centuries of women’s diaries. They included some less known women and many famous ones like Queen Victoria, Beatrix Potter, Anne Frank, Alice Walker and Oprah Winfrey.
This is an amazing collection of quotes about women’s experiences down through the ages. Check out this delightful conversation with Laurie and Sarah to learn interesting tidbits and backstories about these women.
We are delighted to have two special books to give away this month:
👉 Sarah Gristwood's Secret Voices: A Year of Women's Diaries. We know you will find it a treasure!
And, with the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics about to begin, we are adding👉 The Tigerbelles: Olympic Legends from Tennessee State to our offerings.
Bestselling author Laura Munson hosted a podcast with Aime Alley Card and discussed her book about the seldom remembered Olympic track stars and legendary Tigerbelles from Tennessee State who found glory at the 1960 games in Rome.
This is a story of triumph over all odds…a team operating on a shoestring budget that wowed the world then. Like Allison, Amy spent years digging into the past to find these indomitable and in many cases unrecognized women for us to get to know.
If you'd like one of these two books, be the first to respond and tells us which book you would like and it will be yours!

Today's TWE Trivia:
Did you know that strawberries aren’t true berries like raspberries and blueberries. They are actually the only fruit that has seeds on the outside rather than the inside and that’s why they are not considered a real berry. They are part of the rose family! Who knew?
But what I do know is if you combine 4 cups of them with the few ingredients in this Allrecipes.com recipe, you get a really luscious, old-fashioned strawberry pie. I just made my first one. It may not be perfect, but it won’t be my last! Try it if you are looking for a special summer treat!
Leaving you with Allison Pataki's moving quote about Margaret Fuller:
“I was honored to pull her from the shadows and put her center stage in her own story. You put a wall in front of her and she wanted to find a way to break it down for herself and then for others.”
